The Formazza Valley is renowned for its many Alpine lakes, its lush woods and its magnificent mountains, such as the Arbola, the Blinnen and the Giove Mountains.
The lower and upper borders of the Formazza Valley, right after the Antigorio Valley, are the towns of Foppiano and Riale. The valley is studded with small Walser villages.: in 1200 the german populations coming from the nearby Switzerland settled here and influenced the architectural features, the traditions and the culture of the area.
Today this cultural heritage is still visible, for instance, in the names of the towns, all written in the Walser language.
As a perfect match between Culture and Nature, the Formazza Valley is known for its splendid Toce Falls, one of the most spectacualr natural show in Europe, for its numerous trekking routes and ski resorts, for the Walser building Casa Forte in Formazza and the Walser towns of Valdo and Riale.
